Start On Steiner is a collective of eight family-owned wineries along Steiner Road in Plymouth, California — Amador County’s first wine trail. Located about an hour east of Sacramento in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, the trail showcases the region’s deep winemaking heritage and world-class old-vine Zinfandel.
Steiner Road winds through the rolling hills of the Shenandoah Valley AVA, one of California’s oldest wine regions. The eight member wineries are clustered along a scenic stretch from 12138 to 12595 Steiner Road, making it easy to visit multiple tasting rooms in a single afternoon. The area is renowned for its old-vine Zinfandel — some plantings date back over a century — along with Barbera, Syrah, and other varietals that thrive in the Sierra Foothills climate.
The Start On Steiner trail includes eight distinct wineries, each with its own character:
The trail’s signature event is Start On Steiner: Spring into Zin, an annual celebration of the region’s heritage Zinfandel vines. Visitors travel the trail tasting new releases, barrel samples, and library wines at each member winery, with food pairings and live music along the way.
