Bear River Resort is a beloved all-season destination nestled at 6,000 feet elevation on Bear River Reservoir, 42 miles east of Jackson near Pioneer in Amador County. The resort features a general store, laundromat, snack bar, gas and propane, and boat rentals at an improved marina with launch facilities near the dam. The Lower Reservoir welcomes all watercraft and is ideal for sailing, water skiing, and swimming, while the Upper Reservoir — accessible by portage — offers a quieter experience for experienced paddlers. In winter, the surrounding Eldorado National Forest high country opens up for snowmobiling. With three family campgrounds, a group campground, and eight deluxe units with full kitchens, Bear River Resort is the kind of place where families return year after year.
