Electra Day Use Area

A riverside day-use area on the North Fork Mokelumne River below the Electra Powerhouse, locally known as Vaught's Beach — popular for swimming, fishing, and picnicking.

Jackson, Amador County

The Electra Day Use Area — locally known as Vaught’s Beach or Box Beach — is a riverside recreation spot on the North Fork Mokelumne River, just below the historic Electra Powerhouse. Reached via Electra Road about three miles north of Highway 49, the area draws locals and visitors for swimming, fishing, gold panning, and picnicking along the river.

The river here features deeper pools and calm stretches, though currents can shift with upstream water releases, so caution is warranted. Picnic tables and pit toilets are available. The stretch of river near Electra also serves as a put-in for Class II–III whitewater rafting on a six-mile run suited to beginners and intermediate paddlers.
