Sutter Creek Wine Tasting

Wine tasting rooms in and around Sutter Creek offering samples of Amador County's award-winning Zinfandel, Barbera, and other varietals in a relaxed Gold Country setting.

Sutter Creek, Amador County

Sutter Creek is a convenient home base for exploring Amador County’s wine scene. Tasting rooms sit right on Main Street, making it easy to walk between pours without getting behind the wheel, and a short drive on Ridge Road leads to boutique wineries with vineyard settings. The wines lean toward bold, fruit-forward reds — Zinfandel from old-vine plantings is the regional signature, joined by Barbera, Syrah, and a growing roster of Italian varietals grown in the Sierra Foothills appellation.

Downtown Main Street Tasting Rooms

Bella Grace Vineyards occupies a historic 1860s-era building at 73 Main Street. Founded by Michael and Charlie Havill, the winery is known for Rhone varietals, Zinfandel, and Primitivo, all aged in their hillside wine cave in Plymouth. The Sutter Creek tasting room also features their artisan olive oils and vinegars. Open Thursday–Monday, 11 AM–5 PM.

Scott Harvey Wines pours at 79 Main Street, just steps away. Winemaker Scott Harvey is a pioneer of Amador County winemaking with decades of experience crafting old-vine Zinfandel and Barbera that showcase the unique terroir of the Sierra Foothills.

Ridge Road Wineries

A few minutes south of downtown, Ridge Road is home to two more wineries worth the drive.

Avio Vineyards & Winery (14520 Ridge Rd) is a family-owned winery with deep Italian heritage, established in 1981. Tastings take place in a charming Tuscan-style courtyard with fountain, featuring Italian varietals like Sangiovese, Barbera, and Pinot Grigio alongside Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon. Complimentary tastings are available; reservations are recommended for groups.

Vino Tahoe (Pansaré Cellars) (15010 Ridge Rd) is a micro-winery specializing in minimal-intervention wines from a CCOF certified organic estate vineyard at 1,860 feet elevation. Tastings are held in a charming 1880s farmhouse and seasonal red barn patio. Open Saturday–Sunday, 11 AM–4 PM, with weekday appointments available.

For a full day of wine tasting, continue from Sutter Creek into the broader Shenandoah Valley wine trail near Plymouth, where dozens more wineries line the rolling foothills of the Sierra Nevada.
