Denim Day

Annual awareness event organized by Operation Care encouraging community members to wear jeans in support of sexual assault survivors.

Denim Day is observed on the last Wednesday in April during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Operation Care Amador County encourages community members, businesses, and students to wear jeans as a visible statement of protest against misconceptions surrounding sexual violence.

The campaign originated in 1999 after the Italian Supreme Court overturned a rape conviction based on the victim’s clothing. In response, women in the Italian Parliament wore jeans to work in solidarity with the victim. Denim Day has since grown into an international event involving millions of participants worldwide.

Operation Care, founded in 1980, provides domestic violence and sexual assault support services, crisis intervention, and education to Amador County. Their 24-hour crisis line is available at 209-223-2600.
