Brinnwood Bed & Breakfast

77 Main Street, Sutter Creek, CA (209) 714-4018 Website Reservations

Brinnwood Bed & Breakfast occupies one of Sutter Creek’s most storied Victorian homes at 77 Main Street, a property with roots reaching back to the 1850s. The house was originally owned by John Davis, a partner at the nearby Herbertville Mine. In 1860, brothers Morris and Nathan Brinn arrived in Sutter Creek and opened a mercantile on Main Street. Morris acquired the property in 1865 and significantly expanded it into the two-story structure that stands today. The building later served as a local restaurant in the 1970s before becoming The Foxes Bed and Breakfast, which earned a loyal following among visitors to the Mother Lode for decades. The property has been reimagined as Brinnwood by innkeepers Danny and Lindsey Wood, who relocated to Amador County — Lindsey’s home turf — after a decade in commercial photography, where Danny worked as a set builder and Lindsey as a food stylist and culinary expert.

The Rooms

The inn offers six individually appointed guest rooms spread across the Main House and Carriage House, each with a private bathroom, gas fireplace, down pillows, mini-split climate control, and fresh flowers. The Garden Room in the Carriage House is the inn’s most popular room, with queen bed, bay windows, and a floral theme. The Anniversary Room in the Main House offers Main Street views and a clawfoot tub, while the Honeymoon Suite on the ground floor is the largest room with a separate entrance and semi-private outdoor patio. The Victorian Room features slanted ceilings and a spacious bright bathroom, the Blue Room in the Carriage House is the only room with a king bed, and the Foxes Den rounds out the collection with a cozy library aesthetic and fox-and-hunting-lodge decor. Nearly every room features a clawfoot bathtub, and all are furnished with Victorian antiques inherited from previous owners.

Breakfast

Lindsey’s culinary background shines at breakfast, served daily around 9:00 AM with coffee and house-baked goods available from 7:00 AM. The farm-to-table spread features eggs from the inn’s own hens, seasonal fruit from local farmers markets, and house-made breads, jams, and hot sauce. Self-serve Stumptown coffee and Harney & Sons tea are always on hand. The gardens surrounding the inn feature working fountains and ponds, and the Main Street location puts guests steps from Sutter Creek’s boutique shops, wine tasting rooms, galleries, and restaurants.
