Nestled in Amador County’s rolling hills along Shenandoah Road in Plymouth, La Mesa Vineyards offers a high-altitude estate experience just 45 minutes east of Sacramento. The vineyard sits at elevation in the Sierra Foothills, where distinctive granite soils help produce vine-to-bottle wines of real character. Their portfolio spans reds like Primitivo, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Malbec alongside whites including Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, and Roussanne, plus a sparkling wine called Aria and port-style offerings. The wines have earned serious recognition, including Double Gold for the 2024 La Mesa Aria Sparkling Wine and Best of Class for the 2024 Sauvignon Blanc.
The Plymouth estate is open Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a weekend bistro serving fresh-made pizza and other inspired pairings. The vineyard hosts lively events throughout the year, from trivia nights to the annual CaberstraVaganza. La Mesa also operates a tasting room at 59 Main Street in downtown Sutter Creek, open Thursday through Monday from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM — a dog-friendly spot with a picnic area that makes it easy to enjoy their wines while exploring the historic town. Both locations welcome reservations, and the property is also available as a wedding venue.
