A family-friendly game shop carrying D&D, Magic: The Gathering, Warhammer, Pokemon, and Munchkin games.
The name tips a hat to Mark Twain’s 1865 short story “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County” — the tale of a gambling man and a frog named Dan’l Webster, born from stories Twain heard at the Angels Hotel in nearby Angels Camp during a rainy January. That story launched Twain’s literary career and has been woven into the identity of this part of California ever since. A game shop named after it feels exactly right.
Jumping Frog Games carries Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, Warhammer, Pokemon, Munchkin, and a solid selection of board games. The shop also has a dedicated gaming area where customers can sit down for RPG, card, and board game sessions. Friday hours run until 8:00 PM, which makes it the anchor night for the local gaming community to show up and play.
Open Friday through Sunday, the store operates on a limited schedule but packs a lot into those three days. Drop in browsing for a birthday present and you might end up rolling dice with strangers who become regulars. That mix of retail and community is what keeps people coming back weekend after weekend.
