Fine Eye Gallery was founded in 1990 by Gail Pimlott, who opened its doors with a passion for promoting American artisans, and for more than thirty-five years it has been one of the premier destinations for contemporary American crafts in California’s Gold Country. The gallery is open year-round, seven days a week. The gallery itself occupies a piece of Sutter Creek history — the historic Brignole building on Main Street, a limestone structure built in 1858 by Bartolome Brignole as a general store. Step inside and you will notice original architectural ceiling joists, iron-pegged beams, and the original 1858 storage bins preserved alongside the art, creating a striking contrast between Gold Rush–era craftsmanship and the contemporary work on display. This building has been serving the community since before the Civil War, and walking through it feels like stepping into two eras at once.
Gail Pimlott personally curates the gallery’s collection, selecting a broad spectrum of enduring fine arts and contemporary crafts from American artisans. The range is impressive and spans from sophisticated and stylish to playful and whimsical — handmade jewelry with vivid colors, rich textures, shimmering metals, and precious stones, alongside art glass, woodwork, metal sculpture, shoulder bags, scarves, and furniture where form and function share equal billing. Artists represented include Collins, Coleman, Kinzig, Leman, Lower, Mullanium, L. Rose, Paran, and many others, each selected for the innovative talent they bring and the way their work appeals to modern lifestyles. The collection leans toward artisan work that feels personal and intentional, the kind of pieces that start conversations in your home long after you have left Sutter Creek.
The staff here genuinely know the artists and the work, which makes browsing feel more like a guided tour than a sales pitch. Excellent customer service is a point of pride, and the gallery is pet-friendly, too, so your four-legged companion is welcome to join you. If you are hunting for a gift that actually means something or a piece of furniture that doubles as art, Fine Eye Gallery has built its reputation on exactly that kind of discovery. Open daily from 10 AM to 5:30 PM.
