Zita Makkos has been photographing people since 2002, with a career spanning nearly two decades that has taken her from Hungary to Australia to the United States. That international path shows in her style — contemporary, magazine-inspired, and focused intently on whoever is in front of the camera. She first set up her California business in Calaveras County in 2015, building a loyal client base across the foothills before expanding to a dedicated studio space at 71 Main Street in Sutter Creek in September 2023. The move brought her fifteen-plus years of photography knowledge to one of Gold Country’s most charming main streets.
Zita holds the title of Portrait Master Associate and was recognized as Best of Calaveras Professional Photographer and Studio in 2020. Her philosophy is as warm as her portraits: “I want to photograph You for who YOU are! I want to know Your story!” That personal touch shows in the range of her work — beauty and boudoir, family portraits, maternity sessions, couples photography, headshots, personal branding, children’s fine art portraiture, and pet photography. Every session includes professional hair and makeup, so clients show up and Zita handles the rest — it is a full experience, not just a quick click of the shutter.
The studio also offers birthday party packages for girls ages eight and up, combining a spa-style pampering session with a professional photoshoot.
